The Say Hey Foundation is dedicated to fulfilling Willie Mays's dream of giving every child a chance, by offering underprivileged youth positive opportunities and safer communities.
The Willie Mays Say Hey Foundation grew out of Mays original dream to offer a helping hand to disadvantaged kids.
Mays recently said, "I recognize what it means to a young kid when someone extends a helping hand. Sometimes that means offering an encouraging word while other times it means providing financial assistance."
Over the years, Willie has donated his own money, encouraged his friends to join him in funding various programs for underprivileged youth, and created his own organization, the Say Hey Foundation.
Willie Mays created the Say Hey Foundation in 1972 and has dedicated it to supporting education and the enrichment of underprivileged youth through education, training and community support.
This small, private foundation has provided college scholarships to underprivileged youth. Its continuing direction is education with a further emphasis on vocational training and community enrichment, while the beneficiaries are intended to be both individuals and organizations.
